In 1986, Sales & Use Tax Advisors of California (Sutax) was founded with one purpose in mind, to help taxpayers that were having trouble with the California Board of Equalization. Every encounter with the Board is unique, and to that end we work with the taxpayer to help plot a course of action with their dealings with the Board.

Situated in Sacramento, which is where the Board’s headquarters are located, Sutax has readily available access to the Board and its senior staff, both legal and audit. This allows for us to quickly and efficiently resolve issues for our clients, saving them time, money and headaches.

Paul E. Nelson founded Sales and Use Tax Advisers of California, specializing in taxes administered by California State Board of Equalization (Board). He, personally,  has over 38 years experience dealing with Sales and Use Taxes.

Our clients include some of the largest computer manufacturers in Silicon Valley, as well as numerous taxpayers located inside and outside of California.

Prior to founding SUTAX, Paul was employed by the Board of Equalization. While there he gained vast experience as a field auditor. His final position with the Board was that of supervising tax auditors in the Board’s headquarters Petition Section, where he supervised the crew of auditors who handled every protested sales and use tax audit in the state.
